Vision boards
Do you make yearly vision boards?
As a mixed media artist, I thought I’d give an image board (aka vision board) a try as the new year rolled around. I remember that vision boards were big with Oprah and the Law of Attraction groups in previous years but I decided to make it more like a collage journal page. Plus it helped that I had a stack of magazines I needed to get rid of; so I simply flipped thru the glossy pages, selected phrases & photos that appealed to me and put them in a pile. I didn’t set out to look for any specific words or images. Just whatever caught my eye; I just let it flow spontaneously. After cancer treatment, a few phrases represented good reminders, I thought the roller skates were cute and I enjoy making homemade pizza. It seemed to reflect my personality; so after this was arranged on watercolor paper, I posted it on my bulletin board and didn’t give it another thought.
To be honest, when I packed up to move in June, I threw it away. I was downsizing and it didn’t seem worth saving. Plus the phrase ‘you have a powerful partner’ proved to not ring true after 5 years of hoping. Ok, so I didn’t say it was a magical board! Lol
However, in the end, it did represent daily self-care reminders. Make every day count, relax, make more time for what you love, have peace and eat pizza. While I don’t need to be reminded to eat pizza, I have mastered different ways to make it way healthier and plant based. The torn-out phrase ‘still going strong after 5 years’ reminds me I need 1,800 days of self-care to stay strong after cancer. The image of a vintage house was just ironic because I moved into an older historic home and love it. I didn’t go looking for one either but perhaps the seed was planted months before.
I could go on but you get the point. Bottom line, this simple exercise at the beginning of the year proved to be more valuable than I thought.
Art journaling continues to surprise me!
