The 100 Day Project
As a licensed massage therapist, I taught my clients the value of self-care for healing and stress reduction. From icing a sore muscle to the relaxation music I played for them during their session, I always managed to work in some type of self-care homework until I saw them again. My massage teacher always said that we must “walk the talk” and do the same for ourselves. This is easier said than done and I can give a pile of excuses as to why it did not happen; until I went through cancer treatment myself. (Evidently, I am motivated more by dire situations than preventative ones.) Yes, I certainly know better but I lacked the ability to care for myself as I have cared for others.
During covid lock-down, I learned the value of simply focusing on my healing by doing what I love…creating art. So when it feels like our days are numbered, I’d rather spend them painting! Yes, everyone is creative in some form, right? There are a lot of creative outlets from woodworking to cooking to gardening to say the least but all take an eye for design, color and composition. Initially, in 2017, I started my art journey by simply coloring for relaxation which led to watercolor painting, which progressed to self-taught acrylic painting. Through every medium, each canvas, each different type of paper and panel that I filled with my artful expressions brought a different type of joy and healing to my soul by painting for ME.
I hope you will follow me on Instagram for this years’ “100 day project” as I share 100 artful self-care tips in my own unique heart-centered style (#the100daysproject2021). Some will be normal and some maybe quirky but the important thing is that I’m taking time each day to artfully care for myself and bring a smile to you! Perhaps you’ll even try a few for your own self-care.
From my heart to yours
